The Pinnochion

Exploring how people think computing works.

What is The Pinnochion?

The Pinnochion is an art project by LHTrevail exploring how people think computing works. It has been commissioned by Home Live Art in collaboration with Royal Holloway University to be presented as a stall in the Science Alternative Fete at the Royal Holloway Science Festival, on March 1st 2014, and as lasting documentation.

It is being developed in response to research by, and conversations with members of the Computer Science Department of Royal Holloway University: Dr. Pierre-Malo DeniƩlou, Dr. Matthew Hague, Professor Adrian Johnstone and Dr. Chris Watkins.

The theme of the fete is "Storytime Science - Exploring Science Found in Children's Stories". I have chosen Pinnochio, as I first heard the story as a child in Science Fiction references to Artificial Intelligence.

The stall will present a series of activities exploring some of the preconceptions and realities of Computer Science.

Data will be gathered as part of the activities. This data will be visualised and analysed using techniques learned as part of the process.

This website is created to document and facilitate the research, process and various manifestations of the work throughout its journey.
